It is important to empower children by teaching them about the risks they face and how they can protect themselves. Young children especially especially face many challenges, chief among them sexual abuse and forced early child marriages.

Quite a number of parents are marrying off their children to old man for reasons best known to themselves. The vice has devastating lifelong effects on the victimised children. As Musokotwane Compassion Mission Zambia, we have partnered with different ministries to raise awareness on the the issues of child marriages. We are teaching children what to do if they find themselves in child marriages. Child marriages exposes the children to exploitation of all kinds since they can not stand their ground. It also exposes the children to sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Early child marriages expose young girls to teenage pregnancies which are often have complications.

The importance of empowering young girls to be able to survive survive on their own can never be overemphasised. We also teach life skills to the young girls such as problem solving, critical thinking, effective communication skills, decision-making, creative thinking, interpersonal relationship skills, self- awareness building skills, empathy, and coping with stress and emotions. These critical skills will help the children have better lives. We also educate the children retrieved from child marriages. Education will open doors of opportunities for the children hence increasing their chances of having a better life.
